Huddersfield Star Wheelers are a proudly accessible and inclusive cycling club, and one of the most established in West Yorkshire.
I was invited by the club’s members to create a refreshed visual identity and updated cycling kit - a design that needed to resonate with a broad membership, from junior riders to competitive racers.
Rooted in deep research, the project explored over 100 years of club history, uncovering influences from the ‘golden age’ of cycling in the 1950s and ’60s, as well as the club’s links to the socialist Clarion movement. Drawing on this rich social and visual history, the new identity balances heritage with contemporary influences from modern cycling and design culture.
The jersey design was created in line with British Cycling regulations, ensuring it could be worn in official competitions - something that was essential to many of the club’s racing members.
With their new identity, the Wheelers continue to represent their community proudly, both across Yorkshire and on the national stage.
